The first details of Netflix’s Horizon Zero Dawn TV show have been revealed – including confirmation that Aloy will be the main character. Steve Blackman, who helped bring The Umbrella Academy to broadcasting, will write the show alongside Michelle Lovreta, who created the Canadian song Killjoys.
The adaptation of the Guerrilla Games open-world series doesn’t stray too far from its PlayStation source material. The original game, which produced a sequel for 2022, focused on Aloy and the remaining inhabitants struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic land in the 31st century. There they worship the former human race – the ancients – and fight against the great machines.
Talk to Netflix’s todom (Opens in a new tab)Blackman asserted that the series “takes place a thousand years in the future, in a world completely remade by massive machines.” “Suffice it to say yes, Aloy will be the main character in our story,” he added. Details of Aloy’s selection have not been announced at the time of writing.
Interestingly enough, Blackman said that both Horizon Zero Dawn and another of his projects – Orbital Orbital – “will use the latest technology available to showcase these projects”. Given the lush landscapes of Horizon Zero Dawn dotted with mechanical monsters and idle structures, this could be a feast for the eyes of viewers on Netflix.
Blackman’s other child from Netflix, The Umbrella Academy, is set to end after its fourth season. From there, he will put all his energy into Horizon Zero Dawn and Orbital.
There are also more PlayStation mods on the way. The Last of Us TV show, Twisted Metal series and God of War TV series are in all different stages of development. For more on Netflix, here are the best Netflix shows you should be watching right now.
