AFC Asian Cup 2022: AFG Play 11 vs SL (Expected), Match 01. Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will meet in the opening match of the 2022 AFC Asian Cup to be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday, August 27, at 7:30 pm IST.

Sri Lanka, which has won the Asian Cup five times, is looking to put in a strong showing in this match. Captain Dason Chanaka hopes that the experienced Sri Lankan team can deliver the goods with bat and ball in the opening match of the 2022 AFC Asian Cup.

On the other hand, Afghanistan will certainly imagine its chances of beating Sri Lanka in these circumstances. With world class players in their ranks and opener Rehmanullah Ghorbaz at their side, Afghanistan will look to produce the best cricket in this opening match. In the last ICC T20I World Cup 2016 held in India, Sri Lanka scored a win by five wickets over Afghanistan.

Sri Lanka is looking to turn its fortunes around at this year’s 2022 Asian Cup. Dason Shanaka hopes the team can adapt to the conditions and deliver a consistent performance in this tournament.

Sri Lanka, led by Dason Chanaka, enters the competition without its fast paced superstar Dushmantha Shamira, who has been ruled out due to injury. They hope to start their campaign successfully as they seek to win their first title since 2014.

The unit led by Muhammad the Prophet will need to up its game overall in the three divisions. In the hitting section, the side will rely on the likes of Hazratullah Zazi, Rahmanullah Qorbaz, Othman Ghani, Najibullah Zadran, and Commander Muhammad Nabi to do most of the scoring. Afghanistan will feature in its 100th international match in T20.

In the bowling department, the side will rely on the likes of Fadlhaq Farooqi, Naveen Haq, Rashid KhanAnd Mujibur Rahman and Noor Ahmed to provide important breakthroughs.

Fadlhaq Farooqi was injured during the Ireland series and may be a questionable start to the game. If Fadlaq Farooqi is not fit, Azmatullah Omarzai and Farid Ahmed Malik will play in the opening match of the 2022 AFC Asian Cup.

Rehmanullah Gurbaz will be the preferred opening for the 2022 AFC Asian Cup due to the promising start of his career on the international stage. A young player may quickly wipe out an opponent’s momentum and can produce strong starts while hitting as a first-class hit into the opening hole. He scored 676 points with an average of 25.03 in 27 T20Is, having made his T20Is debut in 2019.
