Chelsea received a boost in their pursuit of Wesley Fofana as Leicester had their sights set on his replacement.
The Foxes backed out of another bid for Fofana this week believed to be in the region of £70m.
But they have targeted Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji, 27, pending a fourth Blues bid for Fofana. telegraph.
Dortmund are said to want £20m for the Swiss international, but are also open to loan offers.
Fofana, 21, will miss Leicester’s trip to Chelsea on Saturday and has been training with the Under-23 side all week where he was not in the right frame of mind to play, according to his manager Brendan Rodgers.
The head of the foxes said: “Hu [Fofana] He won’t be available for the weekend and has trained with the U23s.
“I’m not sure [if there will be a fourth bid]. My focus is with the team, I can’t lose energy thinking about it.
“There will be something to be done between the clubs, until then I keep working. It is always about commitment and when a player is ready to commit to the team. If he is not in the right mental state, I have to think about the player’s well-being and push.”
It is also believed that Chelsea are close to striking a deal to sign Barcelona star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The striker appeared to bid farewell to the Nou Camp at the end of the friendly against Manchester City on Wednesday amid a £17m bid from Chelsea.

The offer tempts Barcelona, and although they are seeking close to £25m, they can accept the offer as it will provide the £15m needed to sign Jules Conde in the summer.
With days left in the transfer window, Chelsea are still hoping to carry out Anthony Gordon’s move after telling Everton he wants to leave.
The Toffees have turned down several bids for the winger and the Blues may have to sacrifice either Conor Gallagher or Armando Bruga on a loan deal to get their player.
