Samuel Umtiti received a huge welcome from Lecce fans upon his arrival in Italy on Thursday.
The defender, 28, joined the newly promoted Serie A side on a season-long loan from Barcelona this week.
As he landed in Salento, he was shocked by a large crowd of jubilant Lecce supporters who proceeded to greet him with chant.
It was clearly a touching moment for Umtiti as the Frenchman struggled to hold back his tears while being interviewed by the media.
He is keen to get his career back on track after spending most of his Barcelona contract on the sidelines.
Umtiti, who joined the Catalan giants in 2016, was limited to making only one appearance last season due to various injuries including a broken toe and several knee problems.
Barcelona officials have been eager to press ahead with a bid to make way for summer signing Jules Conde, who joined from Sevilla in a £46m transfer deal last month.
Umtiti was closely linked with a move to Arsenal at the start of the year, but injury prevented the deal from being completed.
He also held talks with Olympiacos and Rennes about a potential transfer deal before agreeing to join Lecce earlier this week.
The Italian team had a difficult start to the Italian Serie A.

They occupy 19th place in the table after suffering back-to-back defeats against Sassuolo and Inter Milan, respectively.
But manager Marco Baroni believes Umtiti will help provide some much-needed experience to the team.
The defender hopes to revive his career and regain his place in the French national team.
